Be a mentor!

Biotech Partners (BP), founded in 1993, is an award winning non-profit organization that provides a year long rigorous hands-on academic and job training for populations typically under-represented in the sciences, especially students of color, young women and those from low-income households. Over the past 23 years, BP has placed over 1,200 students from Berkeley High School and Oakland Technical High School into viable summer internships with Bayer Healthcare, Microbiology Quality Assurance, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Libby Labs, Kaiser Hospital of Oakland, Joint BioEnergy Institute to name a few. In 2015, we expanded our Biotech Academy to two additional sites- Antioch High School and South San Francisco High School and this year we joined San Marin High School. We increased our cohort of “Lab Assistants” from 66 to over 100 for 2017 Summer Internship placement.

Our Biotech Academy provides a rigorous year-long approved course of study in the sciences which students master lab skills such as aseptic technique, precise pipetting, gel electrophoresis, PCR, serial dilutions, reagent and agar preparation and accurate data record keeping. Additionally, throughout the academic year, our students receive professional soft skills training in effective communication, time management, workplace etiquette and team work.

Among the possible opportunities to partner with us, BP is currently seeking mentors for our 2017 Summer Internship program. We are looking for local organizations to get involved in a key element of training the future biotech workforce.
